What is Araknea? What Does It Do?
Araknea is a solidarity network. It generates strategic knowledge for workers and their organizations engaged in struggles across global supply chains. To support the efforts of unions, grassroots collectives, and independent worker initiatives, it gathers data from the ground, documents violations, analyzes trends, and shares insights.
Araknea builds a collective platform that transforms information into action. It does not position itself as an organizer, but rather stands beside and behind workers and their organizations. The workers—and their collectives—are the true agents of change; Araknea’s role is to contribute to their struggle.
Its aim is to amplify the voices of workers against transnational corporations, to expose rights violations, and to help open doors to accountability mechanisms—complaint channels, multistakeholder protocols, due diligence processes, and more.
In doing so, Araknea collaborates with consumer movements, women’s organizations, human rights defenders, environmental and animal rights groups, labor-aligned political actors, and media outlets to build a counter-power. It also generates field-based knowledge on key sectors, publishes reports, conducts risk analyses, and shares future outlooks with the public and relevant industry stakeholders.
How Does Araknea Work?
Araknea organizes its work across five strategic pillars:
1. HUB – Local and Transnational Networks
Araknea builds solidarity with unions, independent worker groups, and grassroots initiatives in Turkey and the region, as well as with consumer advocates, feminist, ecological, human rights, and animal rights movements. Internationally, it forges partnerships with global unions, watchdog organizations, campaign networks, and research collectives.
What we do:
Support the planning and coordination of local campaigns
Develop shared tools, narratives, and intervention strategies
Amplify calls for solidarity and strengthen local struggles
Build direct links with actors involved in global rights violations
Activate transnational solidarity networks with the exchange of information, documents, and strategies
2. LAB – Research and Monitoring
Araknea conducts research and produces data to document and make visible the challenges faced by workers.
What we do:
Gather field-based case studies, testimonies, and monitoring reports
Produce sectoral analyses and strategic assessments
Translate information into tools for worker empowerment and accountability for decision-makers
3. NEST – Institutional Solidarity Relations
A long-term collaboration track built with trusted unions and labor organizations.
What we do:
Respond directly to the strategic needs of our partners
Provide content support, generate data, boost visibility, and build collective capacity when needed
Build trust-based, sustained models of solidarity
4. AGORA – Open Knowledge and Participation Space
A participatory platform where insights are shared by labor actors both within and beyond Araknea.
What we do:
Publish field notes, commentaries, analyses, and policy pieces
Create a space of dialogue and collective thinking shaped by researchers, unionists, workers, and allied networks
Foster political debate and memory-building rooted in shared experience and reflection
